1) Special Service for those who arrive at Hamburg Airport:

The best connection from Hamburg airport to Kiel is by bus (Kielius, see below).

For six hours on Saturday 2 August, (11 am to 5 pm) and for six hours on Sunday 3 August, (11 am to 5 pm) a colleague of ours, Annika Weseloh will be located at Terminal 1 at the meeting point to direct arriving people to buses or taxis going to Kiel.

Annika will be around to help you to negotiate with taxi companies for prices for transport to Kiel and perhaps special rates can be obtained for four people sharing a taxi, etc.

To ensure that you book appropriate flights, please consider the following information:

• Registration begins at 17:00 on Sunday 3 August and at 08:00 on Monday 4 August, 2008.
• Talks are scheduled from the morning of Monday 4 August until 17:00 on Thursday 7 August, 2008.
• The banquet is scheduled for 19:00 on Thursday 7 August, 2007.

We will arrange for a registration desk and a “welcome drink” at the Institute for Marine Sciences IFM-GEOMAR, Düsternbrooker Weg 20, on Sunday 3 August 2008 from 17:00 until 20:00. Please visit this page for details as the conference approaches.

Traveling to Kiel

Kiel can be reached best via the airport in Hamburg (www.flughafen-hamburg.de) and by taking a transfer bus from the airport directly to Kiel. The coach "Kielius" leaves the airport at Terminal 1, Section C of the bus terminal on a regular basis. Tickets can be purchased in the bus. With a combi-ticket, the bus driver will even call a taxi/cab for you which picks you up at the bus and brings you to your hotel or the IFM-GEOMAR. For further details on prices and timetables visit www.kielius.de. We can try to organize group transport at set times, if you inform us about your travel itinerary. The fare for groups of 20 people or more can receive a discount of 25% (13 Euros instead of 17 Euros for a one-way trip). Please visit this page for details as the conference approaches.

By train www.bahn.de, this homepage should also be interesting, if you are planning to go to other places in Germany or Europe after the conference, since special train fares and combination tickets are offered.

By ferry: Scandinavian participants may take a ferry from Gothenburg or Oslo directly to Kiel. Stenaline (www.stenaline.com) from Gothenburg moors at the Kiel ferry port “Schwedenkai” and Colorline (www.colorline.com) from Oslo at the “Norwegenkai”. Note, that no public busses run from the “Norwegenkai” on Sundays. You may instead either walk directly to the central station (approx. 600 meters) from where all busses operate or take a taxi.

By car: From south: head north on the Autobahn A7 via Hamburg and leave onto the A215 to Kiel.
From north (Denmark/Flensburg): head south on the A7 and leave onto the A210 to Kiel. If you are considering to rent a car, please be aware that most rentals are standard (or stick-shift). Make sure to require an automatic transmission, if you prefer that.
