Northeastern Pacific coasts of Japan were devastated seriously by the massive earrhquake and tsunami in March 2011. We have been facing a fundamental question since the massive earthquake/tsunami attack; What should we learn from it and where should we direct? Our anser is to create a model of reviving from the disasters by promoting MOUNE PROJECT under philosophy of "The sea is longing for the forest". We have learned basic concept of reverence to the nature and started MOUNE PROJECT to establish a future promising model of fishing village [Living with the Sea]. The project aim has benn approached by establishing a research and education center to study the linkage of forest and marine ecosystems, focussing on salt marsh and tidal flat areas which have been reappearing due to sinking of the ground caused by the earthquake, and to promote environmental education for young generations. Our volunteer research teem covering a large varaiety of fields organized in May 2011 has conducted comprehensive investigations on the influences of the 3/11 earthquake/tsunami on the coastal ecosystem in Moune bay, Kesen-numa, Japan to collect basic data of changing sea. Data from basic research could be applied to more scientific culture systems for oyster and scallop. We expect urban people both from inland and overseas countries visit here to see recovering nature and learn how local people create and enjoy their life with the sea. Our messege, significance of [Living with the Sea], will be distributed not only domestically but internationally and handed down to next generations as a "Historical witness".
